The Schaaf-Reid Crime Fighting Measures

On January 22, the Oakland City Council unanimously approved three crime-fighting measures proposed by Councilmember Libby Schaaf and Vice-Mayor Larry Reid.

The Schaaf-Reid measures begin building the adequately sized police force we need as soon as possible. They will:

Increase Officers: Authorize hiring as many new officers as possible this year, and open new police training academies. Click here to read the City report on this measure..

Increase Civilian Staffing: Immediately hire 21 civilian staffers—an additional examiner for our crime lab and 20 service techs, to free-up officers in the field so they can spend more time preventing and fighting crime. Click here to read the City report on this measure.

Secure Temporary Help: Contract for up to 6 months with Sheriffs Deputies to increase the number of officers policing our streets right now. Click here to read the City report on this measure.
